Wrap Education

Auto Wrapping

Vehicle Wraps are the fastest growing trend in advertising today. The technology and advancements in the materials used allow wraps to last longer and look better than ever before. When comparing the cost with other forms of advertising media nothing comes close to your cost per impression and number of leads generated. This education section has been developed to help you understand the impact vehicle wraps have on your bottom line, and how to choose the right wrap company for your business, All Signs and Tint.

Let's review what everyone wants to know - the statistics on why wraps work so well.
(This information was compiled from Outdoor Advertising Association of America and Arbitron Inc, an international media and marketing research firm.)

• The average person driving in America today travels approximately 15,000 miles a year, which includes that person passing 30,000 to 70,000 other vehicles per day.

• More than 95% of all Americans are reached by media targeting vehicle drivers and passengers.

• Transit advertising boosts name recognition 15 times more than any other form of advertising.

• In a recent poll 96% of the respondents felt vehicle ads had more of an effect than billboard ads.

Let’s compare the cost of a vehicle wrap vs. other forms of media outlets.
(We do this by breaking down the cost per thousand impressions, or CPM. These numbers are courtesy of OAAA.)

• In the Top 100 Television Markets a 30 second prime time spot costs $17.78 per CPM.

• In the Top 100 Newspaper Markets a 1/3 page b/w ad costs $22.95 per CPM.

• In 23 Magazine Publications a 4 color, one page ad costs $9.35 per CPM.

• In the Top 100 Radio Markets a 60 second drive time ad costs $8.61 per CPM.

• The average for all forms of Billboard ads cost $2.18 per CPM.

• Vehicle Wraps, which last 3 to 5 years, cost $ .77 per CPM. (Yes! That’s only 77 cents per CPM.)

The material used is always an important aspect of a vehicle wrap.
There are a lot of companies that have developed a wrap material and laminate. They include: 3M, Oracal, Avery, MacTac, Arlon, and Solvex. The one thing all of these different materials have in common is the air-egress technology. This technology is actual grooves and channels imprinted into the adhesive to allow air pockets to escape without creasing the material, which allows for a much smoother installation. Another similarity is the ability to set and re-set the material using the comply technology. This allows us to get the information exactly where we want it before we set it in place. Additional new technology is increasing the ease of removal. What this means is when you are ready to have your wrap removed, as long as it is within the material requirements (3 to 5 years depending on material), it will come off with ease and leave little glue to be cleaned up. Each manufacture has different technology with regards to how well the material stretches and holds depending on vehicle difficulty.

Vehicle wrap pricing

There are many variables to consider when pricing your vehicle wrap.

Our design team will look at what you can provide us, such as:  vectorized logos, high resolution images, basic layout, information, etc. This will help guide the designer in the right direction for the design of your vehicle wrap. An average design fee can cost about $250 which is payable in advance.  This includes minor changes. Only if you change the entire design will additional fees be assessed.  Your satisfaction is important and perfection is our goal when it comes to designing your wrap. We make sure you are completely satisfied before we have you sign off on the design and take it to print.

Another variable is the type of vehicle which effects the labor time and cost. For example a Chevy HHR is much more difficult to wrap than a Scion Xb. Both vehicles have the same amount of square footage, but the HHR will take about 5 more hours to wrap than the Xb. There are differences in price with the use of window perforation, which allows you to bring your wrap onto the windows without obstructing your view. The only way to receive an accurate quote is to bring your vehicle in and let us go over the variables and let you choose what is right for you.

The most important question, "How much is a wrap?"

The following list is a sample pricing of the national average. To receive an exact quote there are some questions to be answered so please call or e-mail us and we will give you a free quote.

• Large Truck (Ext. Cab, Quad Cab) about $2800
• Small Truck (Reg. Cab and under) about $2200
• Large SUV (Excursion, Suburban) about $3200
• Mid SUV (Jeep Cherokee, etc.) about $2800
• Small SUV (Honda CRV) about $2500
• Sedan (4 Door Car) about $2200
• Coupe (2 Door Car) about $1800
• Van (15 Passenger) about $3500
• Mini Van (8 Passenger) about $2800

Again, these are national averages, but they will give you a good place to start for your budget.

The next question, "Now what?"

Now that you have made the decision to promote your business with a high, quality vehicle wrap from All Signs and Tint, the following is the process and timeline generally followed.

After the completion of your artwork we print it out using our Mutoh Eco Solvent printer. This process usually takes approximately a day to print and cure. Then we laminate the printed material which provides the wrap with print durability and UV protection, to prevent fading. Once this is complete we trim off the excess material to have just the printed panels.

Now we are ready for your vehicle. We schedule a time for the vehicle to be dropped off. We ask that you run it through a carwash first to get most of the dirt off. When the vehicle is turned over to us we bring it into our climate controlled garage bay and let the surface temperature equalize with room temperature.

After this is complete (about an hour) we give the vehicle a thorough wipe down with Isopropyl alcohol (cleaning door jams, fenders, under hood, etc.) At the same time, we remove door handles, mirrors, antennas, and anything else that may interfere with applying the wrap as smooth as possible.

Rather than printing 48" panels and let them overlap wherever they are on the vehicle we take the time to panel out each individual body panel on the car to give it a seamless wrap. This allows the finished product to look more like a paint job than a wrap. In addition, if you were to ever have a panel damaged due to an accident or weather, it is much cheaper to replace this way. Now there are some vehicles that don't allow us to do this, when this happens we plan the wrap out to hide the seams at inconspicuous places that don't allow the eye to notice when first looking at a wrap.

Adhesive promoters are used in wheel wells and other strong curved areas to prevent the material from lifting and peeling back. Also an edge sealer is applied after the wrap is completed to ensure no loose edges that could snag or get pealed back by debris on the roadways. Extra care is taken with every vehicle we do so that when it is time to remove the wrap, the paint underneath will look the same way it did before the wrap was applied. The actual wrapping process takes about 1½ to 2 days depending on the vehicle.

To learn more about the wrapping process please come in and talk with one of our wrap specialists specifically about your vehicle and how it would be applied. We hope this section was a useful tool in teaching you about Vehicle Wraps.
